Biography
Emily Green currently sits as Speaker of the House and has served as both a senator and representative for the state of Connecticut. She also briefly worked as a human rights lawyer before entering politics.


Emily Green was born October 1, 1969 in Waterbury Connecticut to her parents Matt and Lois Green. Both parents were blue collar workers before her father's death after which she was raised in a single-parent household with one sister. She grew up in the small Connecticut suburb of Wolcott Connecticut where she attended school. Emily graduated from high school and went on to the University of Connecticut where she got her masters in political science. She then obtained her law degree at Harvard Law School and began to work for a private law firm.

Emily later moved to West Hartford Connecticut where she got married in 1993 and began a family. This is also where her political career began when she ran for and won a seat on the West Hartford City Council. This then became a very busy time in Emily’s life balancing her career, family, and political title. In 1996, supported by the Party Party, Emily Green decided to take on the challenge of running for Connecticut State Representative. After a tireless campaign, Emily won the election in a landside and began her political career at the national level.

While serving her state, Emily was one of the first officials to start the fight about gay rights and equality in government. She was also known and respected as a foreign policy expert. She had a strong influence for support and stability in the Balkans and fought for strategic arms limits in the Soviet. Her more recent efforts include supporting the Affordable Healthcare Act and fighting for action against climate change.
